Author Topic: Odd Drum Sounds  (Read 3466 times)

Hello,

For some reason, instead of the percussive notes, all I get is Space -like sounds. Instead of triangle, I get an odd clicking, and if I open the DrumRef file, it's all spacey...

Hope someone can answer my question,
Teodore

On the problem NWC files, select the percussion staff in question and hit F2 to bring up staff properties.  Make sure it is set to MIDI channel 10 (or for some older sound cards, MIDI channel 16).  What is your MIDI synth or sound module?  That might give us more of a clue to the problem.  Also, try rebooting and see if that clears up the problem.

Not sure what you mean by "spacey."  The drum sounds depend on the pitch of the written notes.  Use a percussion clef, set to Channel 10, and for some reason make the instrument Acoustic Grand Piano.  Enter a chromatic scale starting about 3 leger lines below the clef and running up to about 3 lines and a space above it.  Play it to hear which notes give you the sound you want.

Once you've identified them, you can write a visual staff, muted, showing the notes as you want them to appear, and write another staff with the notes that give the sounds you want.  This staff will be hidden when printing, but not muted, so it will be what you hear on playback.

I know that if you set the instrument to #057 (Trumpet) you get some sound effects, like screaming, a heart beat, bubbles, etc.
